Key Happenings at Rim of the World High School

October 23, 2023

Fall Sports Dominate!

Rim of the World High School has had a banner season for all fall sports. Volleyball, Boys Cross Country, Girls Cross Country, and Tennis have all secured league championships and playoff berths. Additionally, Football has already secured a playoff spot and will play for a league championship this Friday against Kaiser High School at home.

All of our fall sports have been competing against schools in the Arrowhead Athletic Conference. Rim is the smallest school in this conference, yet we consistently rise to the occasion and excel. A special congratulations to all our fall sport athletes and coaches for their hard work this season. We are very excited with the success already seen, and the playoff excitement ahead of our teams.

It’s College Application Season!

College application season is in full swing! Our seniors should be in the process of planning for the next step of their educational journey! Most California State University and University of California applications close on November 30th.

RHS PTSA has sponsored a college application advisor, Julie Scorziell, to come to RHS throughout the months of October and November. There are weekly lunch talks on Tuesdays in the College and Career Center. Also, students can sign up for one-on-one sessions to get additional help with their college applications. We are so grateful to Julie and RHS PTSA for providing this extra support to our students!

A note about FAFSA: Students are typically filling out their FAFSA during this time of year as well. The US Department of Education is changing the FAFSA this year. As a result, we do not anticipate the FAFSA opening until mid to late December. We will keep our students and families informed as we receive more information from our educational partners.

RHS Test Scores Improve

In the coming weeks, the data from our 22-23 assessments will be made available. We are happy to report that we have seen improvement in most exams that were administered.

For our AP students, last year we administered a total of 263 AP exams. This was increased from 164 in the 21-22 school year. 61% of our students passed the AP exams with a score of 3 or higher. This is up from 49% in the previous school year. In short, we have more students taking courses of rigor AND we have a higher percentage passing the exams.

For our CAASPP exams, we saw significant improvements as well! We had a higher percentage of student that met or exceeded standards in English, Math and Science over previous years. In the coming weeks, the California Department of Education will release our school dashboard online, showing how we improved throughout the course of last academic year. We are very proud of our students and understand that we have more work to do to ensure RHS is an academic institution of the highest caliber!

First Quarter Grades!

Our first quarter has ended, and student grades can be found in Aeries. Quarter grades are a progress report and are not final grades that appear on transcripts. These grades, however, are critical in our students working to pass all their classes and earning their credits by the end of the semester.

To graduate, students must earn 220 credits. Students earn 5 credits per semester class. This allows students to earn 30 credits a semester. Any failed class makes a path to graduation more difficult. We encourage our students and families to reach out to their teachers and work on options to improve their grades.
